All in One – Community

What is the ‹Project Michaelshof›? A piece of beautiful nature and healthy agriculture. A social place with swing, which implements many exciting ideas and gladly lets all visitors from near and far participate in its own particular way of life. When you visit us, you will be amazed at what there is to see and to hear, to feel and to touch: from the wonderful roses to the playful calves; the joyful children on the playground, fragrant bread, delicious cheese and 1000 things more.

And lots of people! ‹Community› is a beautiful word. We are amazed ourselves by the fact that we (mostly) get along well: People of all ages, from the most diverse nations and continents, with fundamentally different characters and preferences. What unites us all is the love of nature and the interest in other people.

This is what characterizes our community: the creation of a place that puts fresh, paradisiacal forces and elements into the world, in the middle of everyday life and work, relationships and life …

Café am Michaelshof

Since April 30th, our café has opened again in to-go service mode. Just in time for the long-awaited summer temperatures, we shall spoil you again with coffee, cakes, pies, ice cream and savory treats. ‹Alles bio. Alles lecker.›

For us Sammatzians it is a real pleasure to see the café open and busy again. We are passionate about sharing with you what we create here together. That’s why we love opening our gardens to the public, our community to guests from all over the world, and our café to you. A little smile over the counter brightens our whole day. It even works under the mask, try it out!!! 🙂

Monday until Friday                                    2pm to 6pm
Saturday, Sunday & public holidays        12pm to 6pm
A well thought-out hygiene concept ensures a safe ordering and payment situation. You can enjoy your coffee-to-go at the familiar 50-meter distance from the café – for example, on one of our many benches along the garden paths. Coffee with a view!

From next week on, also with RECUP – a deposit system for hot drinks-to-go. With a deposit of 1€ you can have coffee & co. filled into a ‘RECUP’ and stroll through the gardens with it. You can get the deposit back either directly in our ‹Café am Michaelshof› or at all participating RECUP partners in your home town.
Sustainable – practical – good!

See you soon for a delicious cake in Sammatz!

Green Village News

Hey Ho – Let’s Go! While it is getting greener and greener outside, the scent is becoming more and more attractive and the water is already running in our mouths, while we have to watch the horses happily going in and out, the frustration in the cow shed is rising. If it doesn’t start soon, I’ll refuse to go to the milking parlor, one after the other decides already in her thoughts. But before it goes as far as that, the time has finally come.

The promising “Kooooom – Kooooom” sounds through the barn. Immediately, cows get up, shake off the straw, and the wonderful chaos begins. Everybody wants to get out, so one forgets to be patient, strays from the path, gets lost in the sight of all the greenery, or mistakenly stops at the side of the path, chewing with pleasure. The shouting of the drivers, trampling hooves, a cloud of dust behind us. Along the field, past the construction site into the valley and finally onto the longed-for ‹Krähenberg›, a hilly area with as much fresh grass as the eye can see.
Barn owls in Sammatz  After many regular visits from a barn owl at Michaelshof in January, we decided to build a nesting box and install it in the cowshed. In this way we can make a small contribution to the preservation of these majestic, silent hunters, who are increasingly lacking breeding opportunities in modern houses and barns. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first subtenant!
 +++ NEWSTICKER +++

SUCKLER COWS Recently we leave a few calves with their mothers. We love the new rearing, cows and calves too 🙂
DONKEY FUN Our 4 young donkeys feel spring in their bottoms & regularly race our horses Applebee, Luna and Co. A droll sight!
GREENHOUSE FEAT. TOMATES On Tuesday, our greenhouse was polished to a shine, ready for our famous tomato plants. Looking forward to summer!

Leyden
from Julia Gomez, Leyden/Netherlands
The first time I came to Sammatz was in 2016. I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years. I know it’s practically a cliché at this point to say that this place has changed the way I see the world. But it’s just true.

During the two years I lived there, I learned that I am capable of doing almost anything with my hands if given the opportunity (and the right tools). I learned to live and work with people who come from all different backgrounds, to respect and understand them. I learned to enjoy working with animals and ensuring their utmost well-being, to understand that each has its needs. It was a great enrichment to realize that there is immense work behind the food you put in your mouth. That we need to start appreciating and respecting for the importance it has. I have learned that it is a luxury to walk in the forest, to discover and learn from its fauna and flora. Few can still enjoy that. And fewer still will if there are no people to encourage change. The forest became my family and my home.

Thanks to all the experiences Sammatz gave me, I decided to study for a master’s degree in biodiversity and sustainability.
For our team we are looking for dynamic and resilient people who like to take responsibility and have a zest for life. Is a meaningful activity more important to you than a “9 to 5 job”? Then you’ve come to the right place!
