What a sweet pigsty!
As of last Sunday there are 15 more of us! One of our two mother sows has just given birth to piglets – the higgeldy-piggeldy little pigs can currently be admired at the open stables of our Farm.
The animals belong to the old domestic animal breed ‹Angler Sattelschwein› (Alte Zuchtrichtung – Angler Saddleback Pig). They are on the red list of the GEH, the German Domestic Animals Preserving Society. Apart from our hard-working boar, there were 28 males in the German Herd Book 2018 – in 2000 there were only 10!
The impressive Angler Saddle Pigs are a traditional North German pig breed known for their parental behaviour. We can confirm this!

Sammatz – a place to be!
Sammatz is like a lemon where the juice runs out. The only difference is that lemon juice is sour and our juice is sweet. So sweet that you think it’s not a lemon at all, but a strawberry. That’s how sweet life is here. Full of surprises, full of peace. Always good mood.
Friends, let’s drink, rejoice and rake up the autumn leaves. Then it will be nice, then it will be good, and the good mood will lift your spirits!
In Sammatz it’s not only rabbits and hedgehogs that meet, it’s young and old, beautiful and ugly, dumb and clever, but all at the same level. No one is vilified here – I hope you don’t vilify either, do you? Otherwise come to us, here you will learn all this. Here up is down and down is up. You don’t know what is happening to you, and yet you are as clear in your head as never before. Sammatz – a place where it is worth living. Where else can you say that about?

With a little wool from my friends

A really good idea: The Rieger company collects sheep’s wool from selected organic farms and uses it to make warm socks, cosy jackets – fashionistas & influencers love them – and really cute cuddly toys. So every piece in our collection is made from our own wool – at least a little bit.

Namely this incredibly delicious strawberry jam straight from the Sammatzer Haus-Acker! Simply to devour!
Magic of the Season …

… in the Sammatz Gardens.
Magnificent quinces are fragrant, …

… Asters,
Dahlias and tireless roses are in bloom.
The more subtle tones of grasses and leaves …

… have their very own charm as well!

Autumn atmosphere at the Waldsee …

And then to the Café to warm up with coffee, tea & cake! See you soon!

Grass-Worlds

Arithmetica in the Miscanthus Gracillimus house

When autumn brings nature to redden again, the magnificent grasses come into their own. The golden sun lets its rays shine through the tops of the grasses, the ‘harps of the garden orchestra’ perform their delicate tones high above the flower bed. Delicate yet robust, these perennials are a gardener’s favourites of the gardener – versatile, from small to large, they relax any kind of strict structure and are an exciting eye-catcher from spring to winter. Whether Chasmanthium, Pennisetum or Hakonechloa – Carex, Miscanthus or Calamagrostis – every species is a grass delight!!

Owls in Banratz

The barn owls – Tyto alba by their Latin name – at Hof Banratz on the other side of the Elbe, we have inherited them, so to speak.
They have offspring, last week one of the young animals was ringed professionally.
Slowly the experience and knowledge is accumulating, with which we want to create more opportunities to research and experience the bird world in Banratz.
Thank you Denisse and Finn for your valuable work!

Volunteering – we love integration!
We are happy that volunteers from all over the world are now becoming members of the Michaelshof Community staff.

Since 2016 more than 1000 people have visited Sammatz as volunteers. Some of them have stayed and are now becoming employees. It’s great that new skills complement what is already here and that in many areas new forces are taking on responsibility.

Latin American slang meets Australian swearwords … It’s great when the whole world comes to us – it’s sad when whole nations are excluded, such as many African countries. It is almost impossible for people from these countries to obtain a visa for volunteering in Germany, no matter what kind of security is offered. It’s a pity – many people would be very interested in learning here, being inspired and implementing what they’ve learned back home!

Staff Member of the Week

Lovely Claudia
Beautiful at a young age, beautiful in old age. Popular with young and old, with old and young, with animals, plants, with everything that surrounds us. When Claudia walks through the landscape, the soul of the village breathes. Even if you visit us as a guest, you will immediately recognise her by her wonderful aura.
Becoming a soul dancer is the motto in Sammatz. We all love to dance, with our soul, sometimes also with our bodies.
Golden as autumn leaves, a little crackling like the fire in the oven, and yet always full of experience, full of sensual joy, full of spiritual inner dancing ability. When you see Claudia, your soul comes alive.

Becoming a soul dancer is the motto in Sammatz. We all love to dance, with our soul, sometimes also with our bodies. Dancing is dancing is dancing. With us there is no Saturday Night Fever, with us there is All Night Fever. But look, you must be awake in the morning. That means you must be fully fit in the morning because the work here is very hard. But everyone is excited, of course not too much, because otherwise we wouldn’t be able to work properly.

In this respect, we are all very happy when we meet Claudia. Everyone is in a better mood if they have seen her at least once a day.

People we like

Nikola Tesla. Many do not know him, a great engineer and physicist who lived from 1856 to 1943. He is the eponym of our favourite car, the ‘Tesla’ of Elon.
