Introducing Michaelshof

As you may have gathered for reading so far, Michaelshof is not a single farm, but a village with diverse activities and a colorful social life. Perhaps it’s interesting for you to get to know our philosophy of life better. It is very different from a world where you often only work to earn money. Perhaps on the surface it seems the same, but deeper it such something completely different.

You need to have a job that you love; when you are happy, you can benefit the world that much more.

It would be great if you take a small piece of the Sammatz ideals when starting your own initiatives, that you wish to put into the world with full enthusiasm. No matter what region of earth you come from or are heading to. Maybe we will all make life a little better on this small blue orb spinning in space by doing so!?

In addition, nature is something very important to us. We believe that not only entropy happens, and a universe dies, but at each moment a new one is born at the same moment. All of nature can be read as if a book – including humankind, which too is wonderful. Nature has a great beauty in it – we use a lot of energy to make the gardens, the animal stalls in the yard, the fields, the houses – all in harmony to make as lively an evironment as possible. Therefore, the culture from the community can complement the surrounding nature, rather than take away from it, in the most harmonious and beautiful way possible.

You will meet the most varied people here – people from all over the world; the international volunteers, people with different professions, but also guests are the cafe and the gardens, young and old people – as well as those considered normal or special living in our child and youth welfare facility, Peronnik. The volunteer helpers in our village form a community within the larger Sammatz community, but also constantly mix together. Thousands of possible ways to find the right mix to suit you!

We are an experienced work & travel host and have had about 800 volunteers over the past three years, who enjoyed our time with us – just take a look at the testimonials from the guest book as well as interviews! As far as the work is concerned, we are considered well organized (yes, you are in Germany!).

You live in 2, 4 or 10 bed rooms in a beautiful new house that we have just built for the helpers. Sometimes you share it with school classes, mostly from Waldorf schools, who do their agricultural training here (mostly 14 and 15 year olds). Directly next is the House of Nature, in which seminars, courses and events of all kinds take place.

You can attend these events – as well as the concerts at the Waldsee- for free if you wish. German courses for beginners and advanced learners are also free, and cultural exchange arises in such an international place anyway. You will often get the chance to learn not only German but Spanish, Italian, and of course English – depending on what volunteers are staying with us at the time. We are curious about who you are, what you want and can learn. So far, the interests of our volunteers and our needs have always resulted in a good work program. Look around the site well, so that you get a picture (eg for more details on the work). We look forward to meeting you, see you soon!

Your interests combined with our needs have always mixed well… A good work program develops…
