for a good cause
With money, creativity and enthusiasm, we have been building Sammatz and it’s immediate surroundings for more than 30 years. Michaelshof has become a place where people of different backgrounds, nationalities, philosophies of life and character come together and feel good.
Create conditions
For this purpose, the creation of external conditions has been required for many years. First of all – the renovation of previously unfinished barns, floorboards and houses as living and working space for employees, students and guests.
Our first building activity therefore began immedietely after the aquisiting of the Michaelshof farm land in 1985, namely the conversion of an existing, very small barn into our first seminiar and event space. This is still used today as a “small hall” for celebrations, music lessons and more. Then, interrupted by years of no construction activities, there was the further development of a large number of new premises: from our large concert hall, theatre and the like to offices and small seminar room for seminaries, as well as larger apartments for employees. All in all, 16 houses of different sizes wree acquired or leased, renovated or completley rebuilt by our initiative.
Creating the environment – Agriculture, Gardens and Houses
Since 2011, we have started a new period of our work, characterized in particular by the design and management of the surrounding nature and related projects.
These include the construction of an agricultural courtyard with open-air stables, a new cafe, a Youth Hostel (aptly nicknamed the Blue House) and the House of Nature (the Yellow House). In the area of landscaping this has included the design of large parks with partial gardens terracing our hilly terrain, the conversion of a former landfill into our beautiful Forest Lake and the expansion of the main house (as it is known) to feature a new industrial quality kitchen and a large dining room. There is of course, much more to come..
It all costs money. Money allows initiative. If you want to support us in this regard, here are many ways to help.
Volunteering – Help from the people
The other type of support, just as valuable as the financial one, enables us to realiye many projects in the first place. It is the coorperation of so many volunteers from all over the world, who support us with building and landscaping, in the garden and the kitchen, the diary and bakery, in Peronnik and everywhere else. All projects of the last three years, we could only implement and realize with your help, dear volunteers. Sammatz has become a unique place, human and scenic, innovative and work-orientated.
A Place Of Encounter
Therefore, if you continue to help us as much as you can – financially and/or in terms of work – we can extend the realization of Michaelshof ever further to what it should be: a meeting place where man and nature live and work in harmony, where the meaningfulness of existence can be experienced.
Or, as Carl Graf von Keyserlingk – the initiator of the agricultural course that Rudolf Steiner held in Koberwitz near Wroclaw in 1924 and thus founded modern organic, bio-dynamic farming – wrote on his tombstone
